Individual Psychotherapy

Dr. Heymen uses Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) to treat stress-related health disorders. The goal of CBT is to help you solve problems concerning dysfunctional emotions, behaviors and thoughts using a goal-oriented, systematic procedure focused on the here and now. The philosophy behind CBT is that you can learn to control emotions and behaviors by controlling your thoughts. CBT strategies will provide you with choices as to how you think about things.

For example, CBT can be used to help you identify stress triggers that can be eliminated from your life. For those stressors that can’t be eliminated or minimized, CBT techniques will help you to manage your thoughts to moderate your stress response in those situations.
